Spain's Davis Cup captain Albert Costa says Rafael Nadal "is worried" about his constant injuries. "He is worried about his physical state, but he's working every day to get better," Costa said Wednesday. Nadal will be sidelined for Spain's Davis Cup match against Switzerland next week.
Spain's tennis federation will invest $271,000 in its flagging women's game as it faces dropping out of the World Group zone for the first time in Fed Cup history. President Jose Luis Escanuela says the federation will look to hold more top-level tournaments and create a national center to help nurture talent.
Pete Sampras and James Blake have been added to the roster for a tennis exhibition in Atlantic City. Organizers said on Tuesday that 14-time Grand Slam champion Sampras will play Blake on April 10 in the inaugural Caesars Tennis Classic. The event will be hosted by Venus Williams at Boardwalk Hall. Also, Ivan Lendl will face Mats Wilander in a one-set, no-ad scoring match.
Former top-ranked player Ana Ivanovic has hired Steffi Graf's old coach, Heinz Gunthardt, to help end a lengthy slump. Ivanovic said on her Web site Monday that Gunthardt, who helped Graf win 12 Grand Slam singles titles, will accompany her to the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York next week. Ivanovic has replaced the injured Serena Williams in the exhibition event.
Li Na has her sights set on the women's top ranking, just weeks after becoming the first Chinese player ever to enter the top 10. Li, in Kuala Lumpur for this week's $250,000 Malaysian Open, said her main goal has always been the world No. 1 spot. "Every player wants to be No. 1 in the world and it is no different with me.
Corona Extra and the ATP have signed a 5 1/2-year sponsorship agreement that makes the Mexican beer brand the top sponsor of the men's tennis tour. A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press it has a total expected value of about $70 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the sides agreed not to reveal financial terms.
Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain defeated fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the Copa Telmex on Sunday. The second-seeded Ferrero beat the top-seeded Ferrer in two hours and 32 minutes, saving seven of 11 break points he faced along the way. The victory for the former world No. 1 was his second straight ATP title after winning last week in Brazil.

Four months ago, Sam Querrey thought his tennis career might be over. On Sunday, he took it to a new level. The only drawback? He had to beat his best friend, doubles partner and future Davis Cup teammate John Isner, in the Morgan Keegan Championships to do it. "I'm sure we'll joke about it later," Querrey said after his 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-3 win.


Hometown favorite Mariana Duque Marino beat fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany 6-4 6-3 on Sunday to win the Copa Colsanitas clay court tournament for her first WTA title. Duque Marino took the last three games of the first set and five of the last six games of the second to win in just under one hour, 20 minutes.

WHAT IF IT RAINS?: I bet you are wondering what we do when it rains… The first thing you should do is check this website for an update. I will post on rainy days… so, you can find the answer right here. :)

If it is raining at MATCH or PRACTICE times, then there will be NO MATCH or PRACTICES. If the rain stops, but the ground is wet, then call your coach. Coaches numbers are posted here. Of course, if the rain stops and the ground is dry, then go to your match or practice.

Practice starts tomorrow, Monday, February 22nd and the first match of the season will be on March 6th.

Roger Federer withdrew on Sunday from the Dubai Championships because of a lung infection. Organizers said that the top-ranked Swiss star picked up the infection last week and will miss the $2 million event, which starts Monday, for the second straight year. A four-time winner in Dubai, Federer will rest for two weeks and is expected to return at Indian Wells from March 11.
Serena Williams has pulled out of an exhibition at Madison Square Garden because of a left leg injury. Williams announced her withdrawal from the BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup on Thursday. She'll be replaced in the four-player field by former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic.
