Rafael Nadal has recovered from an abdominal injury and made himself available for Spain's Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic in December. Nadal said in an e-mail that medical tests he had in Barcelona on Wednesday showed his stomach muscle had healed. He hasn't played since losing in the U.S.
A weekend benefit concert raised nearly $8 million to support retired tennis star Andre Agassi's public charter school in Las Vegas. Officials say Agassi's foundation, used to support the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, also received a pledge of $7.5 million over five years from the Engelstad Family Foundation.
Sam Querrey cut his right forearm in a freak accident after practicing for the Thailand Open in Bangkok and will be out at least four to six weeks, the U.S. Tennis Association says. USTA spokesman Tim Curry says the 21-year-old Querrey sat on a glass table after practice Monday and fell through, hurting his arm.
Top-seeded Gael Monfils ended a four-year title drought with a 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-2 victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany in the Open de Moselle final on Sunday. Monfils served 14 aces and broke the 23rd-ranked Kohlschreiber twice in the third set before closing out the match. The Frenchman had won their previous encounter last year in Vienna.

Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm became the oldest winner of a WTA Tour tournament since Billie Jean King in 1983, beating second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 6-3, 6-3 for the Korea Open title on Sunday. Date Krumm turns 39 on Monday. King was 39 years, 7 months, 23 days when she won at Birmingham, England.


Albert Montanes of Spain has won the BCR Open Romania, overcoming Juan Monaco of Argentina 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6). Both players held serve throughout the first set Sunday before the fifth-seeded Montanes dominated the tiebreaker. Monaco then broke early in the second to take a 3-0 lead but fell and hurt his right leg when leading 5-2.

Shahar Peer of Israel has won her second straight WTA Tour title, beating local favorite Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan 6-3, 6-4 in the Tashkent Open final. The second-seeded Peer earned her fifth career title on Sunday. She won the Guangzhou Open in China last Sunday. The 46th-ranked Peer broke Amanmuradova two times in the first set.

Fifth-seeded Albert Montanes defeated Santiago Ventura 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 Saturday to advance to the final of the BCR Open Romania. The Spaniards traded breaks early in the first set before Ventura broke decisively to lead 4-3. Ventura won three straight games in the second set to even it 4-4 before Montanes rallied to win the set.

Former ninth-ranked Paradorn Srichaphan announced his nearly three-year comeback from injury on Saturday, saying he'll play doubles at the Thailand Open next week. The 30-year-old Thai hasn't played on the ATP Tour since March 2007 because of a wrist injury. He'll team up with his countryman Danai Udomchoke as a wild-card entry in the tournament, which starts Monday.

Kim Clijsters' U.S. Open victory and the unretirement of Justine Henin have pulled this nation of just 10 million from the edge of the tennis world back to the center. "And don't forget Yanina," Clijsters said of Yanina Wickmayer, a teenager who came out of nowhere to reach the semifinals of the U.S.
Roger Federer withdrew from the Japan Open and Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 on Friday, citing the need to rest after a physically challenging year. The Japan Tennis Association said the top-ranked Federer was withdrawing from the Oct. 5-11 Japan Open, along with the Shanghai tournament the following week.
