Fabrice Santoro walked off the court at the French Open for the last time Wednesday, ending his record-tying run of 20 straight appearances at Roland Garros. The 36-year-old Frenchman played only eight minutes Wednesday before completing a first-round loss to Christophe Rochus of Belgium 6-3, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

James Blake has lost in the first round of the French Open to a qualifier making his Grand Slam debut. The 15th-seeded Blake was upset 7-6 (6), 7-5, 6-2 on Tuesday by 93rd-ranked Leonardo Mayer of Argentina. Blake has never been past the third round at Roland Garros. The American made more than twice as many unforced errors as Mayer.
Mississippi's Devin Britton and Duke's Mallory Cecil overcame their inexperience on the final day of the NCAA Division I tennis tournament. The unseeded Britton became the youngest men's singles champion ever, while fellow freshman Cecil claimed the women's singles title at the Mitchell Tennis Center at Texas A&M on Monday.

Lleyton Hewitt criticized the International Tennis Federation on Sunday, saying it was a "disgrace" the way the sports body reacted to Australia's decision to skip a Davis Cup series last month in India for security reasons. Ivo Karlovic set a record for aces in a tour-level match Sunday, serving 55 in his 6-7 (1), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-3 loss to Lleyton Hewitt in the first round of the French Open. The ATP began keeping records on aces in 1991. Karlovic shared the previous record of 51 aces with Joachim Johansson. The old mark for aces in a French Open match was 37, set by Andy Roddick in 2001.
Sixth-seeded Vera Zvonareva has withdrawn from the French Open because of an ankle injury. The Russian injured her ankle chasing a ball last month at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C. She pulled out of the season's second Grand Slam tournament on Saturday, a day before play begins on the red clay at Roland Garros.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain won his first ATP Tour title, rallying past Julien Benneteau of France 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3 in the Austrian Open final. "I am so happy. It was incredible to reach my first final, and now I've won it," the 25-year-old Garcia-Lopez said. "It was an unbelievable week for me, also an exhausting one." Garcia-Lopez was the more consistent player.

Serbia defeated Germany to win the World Team Cup on Saturday, becoming only the second team in the tournament's 32-year history to hoist the trophy on its debut. Viktor Troicki claimed a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win over Rainer Schuettler and Janko Tipsarevic sealed the victory by beating Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-2, 6-4.


Tennis player Jelena Dokic's father was charged with threatening the Australian ambassador in Belgrade. Police found rifles and hand grenades during the search of his house. Damir Dokic could face up to eight years in prison for "endangering security" of the ambassador and unlawful possession of weapons, his lawyer, Bosiljka Djukic, told The Associated Press on Friday.
A new Court 3 will be built at Wimbledon in time for the 2011 championships. The new 2,000-seat court will occupy the site of the old Court 2, with work getting under way in July and scheduled to finish by May 2011.
